Some songs are written from an idea. Others are written from a lifetime.
“Stories About Jesus” is one of those songs.
When I was a very little girl, I went through a time when my world felt frightening and uncertain. But God gave me a momma who loved me fiercely and knew exactly where to point me.
At night, when I was afraid to go to sleep, she would open her big illustrated Bible and tell me stories.
Stories about David facing a giant.
Zacchaeus climbing a tree.
A Savior who loved little children.
A Jesus who could calm storms, heal broken hearts, and make everything all right.
Then she would pray with me, and I would fall asleep with my little hands holding her face.
I didn't know it then, but she was giving me something I would carry for the rest of my life.
Years passed. I became a mom and told stories to my own children. I began traveling and singing, and somewhere along the way, I realized I was still telling stories—only now they were my own stories of how Jesus had been faithful to me.
The little girl grew up.
But she never outgrew those "Stories About Jesus"
Curtis and I wrote this song from that very personal place, and today, I am so excited to finally hold “Stories About Jesus” in my hands on CD.
It's a song about the stories we're given, the faith we pass along, and the Savior who remains faithful through every chapter of our lives.
And maybe one day, when this life is over, I'll get to hear some of those stories firsthand—from David, Zacchaeus, and the saints I've heard about all my life.
But most of all, I'll finally be standing face to face with the One every story was about.
Jesus.
